Cagliari Urbanfest 2025: Sant’Elia’s streets pulse with art, movement and memory
This October, the fourth edition of Cagliari Urbanfest transforming the city into a vibrant laboratory of urban and social regeneration.
🎨 Sant’Elia: A week of wonder
From October 13th to 19th, Sant’Elia became the beating heart of Urbanfest. The neighborhood welcomed artists, performers, and residents into a shared creative experience that blurred the lines between art and life.
Roberto Ciredz, one of Italy’s leading abstract urban artists, unveiled Corrente, a 120-square-meter mural on Via Schiavazzi 63. With rollers and a spectrum of blues, Ciredz translated the rhythm of the nearby sea into a flowing “chromatic landscape” that evokes movement, depth, and serenity.
Just down the street, Diego Vargiu, assisted by Roberta Congiu, led a joyful workshop with students from Nanni Loy Primary School. Their collaborative mural, Fantamirò, inspired by Joan Mirò’s whimsical creatures, now dances along the school’s seventy-meter wall, an explosion of color and imagination created by the neighborhood’s youngest artists.
🌿 Environmental art and community collaboration
At Parco degli Anelli, fiber artist Pietrina Atzori launched Croce del Sud, an ephemeral installation made from eco-sustainable materials like wood, seagrass, and recycled fabric. Residents and volunteers joined in sourcing and assembling the piece, turning environmental art into a collective act of care and creativity.
🎭 Performance and participation
Enrica Sirigu’s performance Oltre il punto di equilibrio invited participants on a symbolic journey through the park’s four stations. Carrying sacks that represented the weight of waiting and hope, attendees wrote, acted, and reflected together—culminating in a shared inscription on a white sheet, a poetic gesture of memory and resilience.
🏃 Parkour and public Space
Parkour Cagliari ASD brought kinetic energy to the weekend with two events that reimagined Sant’Elia’s public spaces. Traceurs leapt and vaulted through the neighborhood, while children joined workshops that turned movement into art.
🧭 Inclusive exploration
Sunday’s mural tours offered two paths through Sant’Elia’s evolving urban canvas. One, curated by Asteras, guided visitors through the neighborhood’s artistic transformations. The other, led by Margherita Orgiana for RP Sardegna Onlus, was designed for visually impaired participants, emphasizing Urbanfest’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
✨ A Festival of Generations and Regeneration
Conceived and organized by Asteras, with artistic direction by Ivana Salis and Barbara Catte, and supported by a passionate team including Alice Agus, Massimiliano Frau, Roberta Congiu, and Nicola Agus, Cagliari Urbanfest 2025 brings together 18 artists from across Italy. Their work weaves together landscape, community, and culture, proving once again that art can transform not just walls—but hearts, minds, and neighborhoods.
