Best of 2025 nominee: introducing Adry Del Rocio
"Sembrando paz'. A mural born in the heart of Culiacán is now competing among the world’s top urban murals. "Sowing Peace", created by local artists Adry del Rocío and Carlos Alberto GH!
Unveiled last December across from the Culiacán Civil Hospital, the mural transforms a residential building on one of the city’s busiest avenues. Rather than hindering the work, the windows, air conditioners, and architectural irregularities became part of its visual language. The project was commissioned by SUMA through its Let’s Paint for Peace initiative, with only one requirement: the mural had to speak of peace.
For Adry, the concept emerged from deep personal reflection. She asked herself where peace truly begins and arrived at the home. The mural’s central image, a mother teaching her children to “sow” peace, captures the everyday gestures that shape a peaceful society. A subtle 3D effect, visible only from a specific angle, invites passersby to pause and engage.
Completed in just over a week, the mural grew through constant interaction with neighbors, who embraced the project as their own. For the artists, the nomination is more than recognition; it is a chance to project a different image of Culiacán and share a universal message. As Adry notes, “We need this reminder worldwide.”
